2019 Larry Graham Aspiring Principal Scholarship

The Aspiring Principal Scholarship is named in honor of former Alaska High School principal and AASSP Executive Director, Larry Graham, in recognition of his outstanding advocacy of the important leadership role of principals.  Any aspiring principal enrolled in a program leading to an Alaska Type B Administrative Certificate is eligible to apply.

The annual scholarship is for $1500.00.  The scholarship selection committee consists of representatives from AAESP and AASSP.  The funding source for this scholarship is the proceeds from the annual Larry Graham Aspiring Principal Silent Auction, held during annual Alaska Fall Principals Conference.

Scholarship Criteria Information

  • Application packets must include:
    1. A brief cover letter (one page or less) describing why you are applying for the scholarship;
    2. Your personal vision statement for becoming an administrator including your professional goals for achieving this certificate (one page);
    3. Proof of acceptance into an accredited educational leadership program or other verification that they are working word a degree program leading to an Alaska Type B certificate.
    4. A current resume; and
    5. Two letters of recommendation (one page each).
  • The two letters of recommendation must speak to your readiness and potential as an administrator.  The letters should be from an immediate supervisor (assistant principal or principal), a director, associate superintendent, superintendent or equivalent.

Scholarship Recipient Award Criteria

  • Annual scholarship award is $1500.00.
  • Scholarship are dependent upon: Verification of scholarship requirements being met each semester and verification of enrollment; as well as availability of scholarship.
  • Awardee must complete the program within two years of initial enrollment.
  • Awardee must provide verification of enrollment prior to AASSP issuing the funds.
  • Checks will be issued once all scholarship application requirements have been satisfied.
  • Awardees can receive the scholarship only once.
  • Application packets must be submitted electronically no later than October 21, 2019.
  • Recipients will be announced during the 2019 Principals’ Conference, October 26, 2019.
